Sex in a screw cap!

R.H. Phillips commits to keeping its wines fresh, while adding original design elements There is a revolution going on in the wine industry. Producers are getting fed up with the high spoilage rate (sometimes up to 7 to 10% of their wines) due to cork taint or TCA. R.H. Phillips’ Co-Founder Lane Giguiere says, “There is nothing romantic about a spoiled bottle of wine. Most companies have zero tolerance with spoiled product. I think it is time for the wine industry to do the same.” R. H. Phillips has taken a bold step away from corks, announcing that they have bottled 300,000 cases of wine with screw caps. They have taken things even further by designing a sexy new bottle with a short screw cap. The bottle looks more like a spirits bottle than a wine bottle. Best of all, the new wines are delicious! Bravo!

R.H. Phillips Chardonnay 2003 Dunnigan Hills California $9
Lemony, citrusy with hints of crisp, green apple. Lightly oaked, smooth and easy drinking with good fruit/acid balance. A real crowd pleaser.

R.H. Phillips Shiraz 2002 Dunnigan Hills California $9
Varietally true Shiraz with spice, berry and cherry on the nose. Voluptuous, rich red flavors on the palate and a nice lingering finish. Great value from a consistently good producer.

Riedel “O” Glasses-

“O”The Joy of Riedel!

A Refreshing New Design for Extending Your Enjoyment of Wine!
OK…we all know that one of the first rules of wine tasting is to hold your wine glass by the stem and not by the bowl, right? Not any more! Leave it to the younger generation to set the new rules for making wine tasting cool! Twenty six year old Maximilian Riedel is an 11th generation Riedel and the Executive Vice President of Riedel Crystal, US. His first design is a new “attitude-free” line of six stemless tumblers for white and red wines. “I designed these tumblers to show that wine can be as easily pleasurable as any other beverage. The glasses are very convenient and even fit in New York City kitchen cabinets!”

Riedel “O” Glasses are now available at fine wine retailers nationwide. They are currently made in six different “O” tumbler bowl shapes: Viognier/Chardonnay, Chardonnay, Riesling/Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir/Nebbiolo, Cabernet/Merlot and Syrah/Shiraz. Prices range from $9.95 to $12.45 per glass.

BTW…Maximilian also has simple advice for the pronunciation of his last name--Riedel rhymes with needle!
